Connor Mc Gilloway Foyle Down Syndrome Trust Down Right Fit School Programme

| Good Relations Connecting Communities Project of the Year Award

The Down Right Fit Schools Programme, led by young adults from Foyle Down Syndrome Trust, is a vital health initiative linking young people and their school community with individuals with Down syndrome to forge new relationships, bring generations together and equip all groups with leadership skills to create inclusive communities.
We are delighted to have been a direct beneficiary of Foyle Down Syndrome Trust’s “Down Right Fit School’s Programme” and to nominate them for the prestigious Connecting Communities Project of The Year Award. This initiative has inspired our pupils, staff, and school community to embrace and celebrate diversity and to be proactive in building a more inclusive society. Through this programme our pupils have learned more about healthy living, gained first-hand experience of disability, and have built strong social connections and friendships with young people with Down syndrome. We are part of a wider community movement which is proactive in organising events to celebrate diversity, showcase the talents of people with a disability and educate others in how they can be more inclusive. We aim to equip our pupils, their families, and their communities with the skills to champion an inclusive society which benefits us all.
